Doodia media

Doodia media (syn. Blechnum medium) is a stunning fern with bright red to pink new fronds that darken to green.

Doodia media (syn. Blechnum medium) is a stunning fern that resembles our native deer fern (Blechnum spicant) but with bright red to pink new fronds that darken to green as they age. The evergreen fronds have a sandpaper texture and form nice ground-covering colonies in time. It is native to New Zealand, Australia, and Lord Howe Island. It can be grown outdoors in coastal BC in protected locations. Cover during a cold snap with horticultural fleece or mulch with fallen leaves. Possibly hardy to zone 7.
