Gardenia jasminoides ‘Frostproof’

The rose-like double flowers of Gardenia ‘Frostproof’ have an intense and intoxicating fragrance and appear most profusely in early summer and sporadically thereafter. This cultivar is more resilient in cool springs or cool summer climates needing less heat than other cultivars to produce copious flowers. Full sun is best but can be grown in light shade. Blooms best where walls or patios provide extra night time warmth in spring and summer. Plant in a protected location just to be safe and mulch the base of the shrub with fallen leaves in winter. Evergreen. It can also be grown as a houseplant either year round or in the winter after a summer vacation on the patio.
