Description
Heptacodium miconioides is a beautiful large, multi-stemmed, fountain-shaped shrub or small tree with multi-season interest. The lush, attractive foliage has deep veins and long pointed tips that twist. The many clusters of fragrant white flowers cover the tree in late summer and early fall becoming an important late season nectar source for hummingbirds, bumblebees, and butterflies. As the flowers drop, the flower bracts become pink then deepen to glowing pinkish red as if the tree has rebloomed in a new colour. The foliage will develop red tints before falling to fully reveal the tree’s winter architecture and its gorgeous peeling bark in shades of cream, grey, and tan. Tolerant of full sun to shade. Possibly hardy to zone 4. Prune plants when young to select the desired number of trunks. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be recently potted in 15cm pots and about 1-2 feet tall.
